This week has seen a series of announcements which if delivered will provide a substantial boost for the Liverpool City Economy. With progress on a new Liverpool-Manchester rail link now confirmed Rachel Reeves also announced new stations in the region including Daresbury, Woodchurch and Carr Mill St Helens. This is an addition to the announcement on the £100m Baltic Station announced late last year.
Discussions will now progress on the possibility of a new rapid transit network, offering fast, modern, and reliable services between Liverpool city centre, John Lennon Airport, and key locations in North Liverpool and Liverpool City Council’s proposals for a 10,000 home regeneration project in North Liverpool
Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “This is a really big win for our area and for the 1.6m people who call it home. It means new train stations where they’re needed most, better buses that actually turn up, and a new rapid transit system to help people get where they need to be – whether that’s for work, education, socialising or care. For too long, too many of our communities have had to put up with second-rate services. This is our chance to put that right.”
All of the recent announcements will hugely benefit the city and the region and will make Liverpool an even more attractive city to live, work and visit. We already have a large number of tenants and owner occupiers that live in the city centre who commute across the region even though the existing transport infrastructure is poor. Improvements in this will only help the city improve its image and attractiveness to residents and employers.
