£100m Baltic station to go ahead

A funding package of nearly £100m has now been agreed which will see a new City Centre railway station built in the Baltic area of the city. Members of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have today given the go-ahead for £96m to be released for the new station on the edge of the city centre.

The station and line that runs through Baltic has been unused for many years with an announcement made in 2022 that they authority was hopeful of reopening the stating in 2027. A formal planning application will be submitted to Liverpool Council shortly and assuming permission is given quickly a start on site may happen in late 2025.

Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham said the project would deliver “generational change” for the Baltic area and improve connectivity for a part of the city not touched for decades. He said, “This is delivering transformational change across the city region”.

The station is seen as an essential transport hub to the continued growth of the Baltic area of the city which has seen a huge increase in investment over the last few years with thousands of homes built, the redevelopment of Cains Brewery and continued success of the emerging Baltic Business area.

We expect that the new station will continue to support apartment values in the area and make renting an apartment in this area of the city even more attractive than at present.
