Skyscraper proposals for King Edward site

Proposals for a new groundbreaking development close to Liverpool’s world renowned waterfront moved a step closer this week with a first glimpse of the scheme released at Liverpool City Council’s developers forum. Backed by Tom Morris (of Home Bargains) and Hugh Frost (of Beetham) the scheme promises to transform the former King Edward Industrial Estate and surrounding plots though their new development company KEIE ltd.

The newly released image shows a cluster of 10 buildings of various height and design culminating in one tower that will become Liverpool’s tallest at in excess of 50 storeys. The actual height of this and the other buildings in the scheme will of course be dictated to by viability and of course planning. Discussions have been described as “constructive” with Liverpool City Council planners highlighting their general support for the proposals. Whilst details of the scheme are still sketchy it is believed that the development could deliver between 1000-1500 apartments together with hotel, retail etc.

Following on from Hugh Frost’s presentation at the Liverpool developers forum the consortium have further announced their intention to submit a planning application for a 26 storey tower on the site of the former Greek restaurant which is adjacent to the existing Home and Bargains store and Costso. The application will be for a “pathfinder” development and will be submitted by the consortium’s planning advisers Pegasus.
