Our MD Alan Bevan has completed his first LandAid sleepout on a cold but dry night in Liverpool. The event was LandAid’s first in Liverpool after successfully running in various other cities across the UK. The event attracted around 30 participants who braved the cold weather at Waterloo Rugby Club. Overall the event raised over £10,000 for the charity with Alan raising £2,600 personally which ranked him in the Top 10 fundraisers in the UK from over 1200 participants!
The LandAid SleepOut unites the property industry behind their mission to end youth homelessness.
The SleepOut sees the property and wider built environment from across the UK brave one night outside, coming together to face a testing challenge and raise funds for 16-25 year olds who so desperately need our support.
To date, the SleepOut has raised over £3 million, funding vital projects helping hundreds of young people to find safe, stable accommodation and a place to call home. But sadly, every year the crisis is worsening. The number of young people experiencing homelessness is rising and the importance of the LandAid SleepOut is greater than ever!
LandAid is the leading property industry charity whose aim is to bring an end to youth homelessness. In the UK, every 4 minutes a young person becomes homeless. Last year alone this equated to nearly 118,000 16-25 year olds. Many are forced to sleep in overcrowded hostels, on the sofas of people they barely know, or worse still, on the streets. Yet homelessness isn’t inevitable. It’s a problem that can be solved.
With the right support services and safe accommodation, LandAid aim to prevent young people from becoming homeless and protect those who are. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. Rising rents and reductions in benefit payments have had a negative impact on the country’s most vulnerable young people and organisations delivering critical services are struggling with an increase in demand. They desperately need investment to reach more young people.
For over 30 years LandAid have been bringing together remarkable businesses and individuals from across the property industry and wider built environment to support projects that provide life-changing accommodation for young people facing homelessness.
